Barefoot is a revered Sri Lankan institution, formed more than half a century ago by the renowned Sri Lankan artist Barbara Sansoni. It is both a boutique design studio and an artisanal manufacturer of handcrafted clothing and accessories. They are highly regarded for pairing traditionally inspired modern design aesthetics with carbon neutral manufacturing techniques.
As a design studio, Barefoot melds the inspiration drawn from the land, sea, plants and animals of Sri Lanka with abstract geometry and vivid colors. Barefoot is deeply committed to gender empowerment, working almost exclusively with women, a tradition started by Barbara Sansoni 50 years ago.
